A PLACE TO BEGIN
You don’t need to know
the moves to start.
A first lesson is a chance to explore something new. You can take your time, ask questions and build your understanding gradually.
What is Tai Chi?
Tai Chi Chuan is a Chinese martial art practised through movement, attention and the exploration of how the body works as a connected whole. The slow movements many people recognise are one part of a wider practice.
At Kai Ming, the foundation is Cheng Man Ching style Tai Chi. Solo practice gives you time to explore posture, weight transfer and movement. Partner exercises offer another way to investigate the same principles.
And Qigong?
Qigong includes exercises that bring movement or stillness together with attention and breathing. In a class, you may repeat a simple movement rather than learn a longer sequence.
Tai Chi and Qigong overlap in their emphasis on awareness and relaxed movement, while offering different ways to practise.
WHAT YOU MIGHT EXPLORE
Simple movements.
Time to understand them.
Loosening exercises
Begin to notice unnecessary effort and explore how different parts of the body work together.
Qigong practice
Follow repeatable exercises, with time to become familiar with the movements.
The Tai Chi form
Learn a sequence gradually, returning to earlier movements as your understanding grows.
The balance of activities varies between instructors and classes. Ask your instructor what their beginner sessions cover.
You can ask before you come.
If you are unsure which class would suit you, get in touch.
